Attention South Barrington Residents:
Keep the Drainage Ditches Clean and Flowing
Please remember that any drainage ditches or culvert pipes along your property not only provide drainage for your property but also for the rest of your subdivision. For these areas of South Barrington where curb and gutters have not been installed, the ditch and culvert systems are in place to facilitate proper drainage. In preventing flooding and keeping our neighborhoods clean, your cooperation with the Village of South Barrington is greatly appreciated. The following notes provide reccomendations for maintaining these ditches and culverts:
  • Eliminating obstructions in the pipe and deficiencies in the drive apron allow for adequate flow through ditches / culverts.
  • Typically, the pressure of a garden hose is sufficient for clearing leaves and dirt
  • A contractor with more powerful equipment may be required to remove other debris
  • Regular cleaning of ditches and culverts will assure that the drain systems in your neighborhood are working at their maximum capacity

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Village of South Barrington at (847) 381-7510.

What Not To Do With Snow
Please do not shovel or throw driveway snow onto the public roadways in the front of your properties or across the street from your driveway.  This creates hazardous surfaces for traffic, narrowing the road, and reducing roadway boundary visibility. In the event of an accident resulting from your excessive piles on the public right-of-way, you may be held liable. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring safety this winter.
